Piñon Pine & Herbal Syrups Workshop

 This workshop takes place at Cactus Mart in Morongo Valley, CA. our High Desert gem providing drought tolerant native plants, a wide range of cacti, succulents events and education.

PART I: 11:00 am - 12:15pm  is an introduction to the botany and ecology of our native Pinus monophylla aka Piñon Pine.  As part of the first session together we will sip on two different preparations of tea made with Piñon Pine. The first one will be a tea prepared with the needles and a second one will be made using the decoction method using bark from twigs, exploring the physical energetics, taste followed with a discussion of traditional and contemporary uses. If you choose to participate in both sessions or PART I or II please bring a cup or mug for the tea. As an introduction to the second session, I will be sharing with folks some delicious ways of working with herbal syrups, we will be sipping on Evergreen Mocktails and other herbal syrups.

PART II: 12:30pm - 2:30pm  we will discover the world of herbal syrups and delve into their sweet world of culinary and medicinal uses. In this workshop folks will together create culinary and medicinal syrups. Each participant will take home their own 8 ounce jar of Piñon Pine syrup. There is a list of materials to bring to participate in the second portion of the class. Please read below for needed items. 

PART II NEEDED MATERIALS 

• 8 ounce clean jar with matching lid (if you do not have a 8oz jar I will have some for $2) 
• Cloth or rag
• Pen & Paper
• Cup or mug
• Clear tape
